미국 의회는 미국 보험청(Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, CMS)의 메디케이드(Medicaid) 및 아동건강보험 프로그램(Children’s Health Insurance Program, CHIP)에 따른 처방용 디지털 치료기기(prescription digital therapeutics) 보험급여 지침을 마련하도록 하는 법안을 제출했다.

Shelley Moore Capito 상원의원(R-WV)과 Jeanne Shaheen 상원의원(D-NH)이 12월 12일에 입안한 “처방용 디지털 치료기기 메디케이드 및 CHIP 접근법The Medicaid and CHIP Access to Prescription Digital Therapeutics Act (S.5238)”은 의사가 디지털헬스 기기 및 모바일헬스 앱(mHealth apps)과 같은 혁신적인 신기술을 보다 쉽게 처방할 수 있도록 하기 위해 제안됐다.
법안은 디지털헬스 도구 및 플랫폼을 사용하여 만성질환 및 기타 건강 문제를 치료하는데 대한 관심이 높아지고 있음을 나타내며, 의료공급자에게 필연적으로 의약품이나 입원 치료를 포함하지 않는 새로운 옵션을 제공한다.
